This
is hugely impressive attraction, a different kind of thrill to
the roller coasters in the theme parks of Orlando. The centre
is open every day except Christmas day between 9 am and dusk.
You
may be lucky enough to experience an earth shaking shuttle launch,
there are about 6 or 7 a year. If you don’t catch a launch
you can almost believe you are an astronaut as you watch the 3D
film in the giant IMAX cinema.
Take
the weight of your feet for a while and board an air-conditioned
coach for a narrated tour of the Space Centre. This will take
you close to one of the launch sites where it is possible to see
a shuttle being readied for launch. Then on past the truly massive
Vehicle Assembly Building where the shuttles are built. You will
also stop at the Apollo/Saturn V centre a great exhibit that houses
an actual 363ft Saturn V rocket. The third stop of the tour is
at the new International Space Station centre, an interactive
attraction featuring the construction of this project.
There
are a dozen or so more exhibits to view and enjoy, gift shops,
3 restaurants, 4 snack areas and a play area for smaller children.
This really is a great way for the family to spend a day.
